A new release just in time for Christmas.
- Added the instructions to the configuration page.
- The published date format can be customized.
- Added a link to view the slideshow provided by Picasa.
- Added the Fancybox engine. Video playback is buggy, but someone requested it.
- Other miscellaneous internal changes so it’s more self-contained. Not that it was spreading accross your WordPress install, but it’s even cleaner.
- Now connecting to Picasa the WordPress way.
- Uninstalling kPicasa now deletes the configuration settings. Nothing should be left behind.
Upcoming features:
- Multiple unlisted albums.
- Switch to Shortcodes.
Remember to vote for kPicasa Gallery in the WordPress directory!

hi there, thanks so much for the wonderful app! I’ve been using kpicasa for a while now, but i installed the new release just now and the gallery seems to not be displaying properly anymore
the album title and descriptions used to be beside the album cover photo, but now it’s underneath it with no buffer room between the lines, and clicking on individual pictures just loads them into the window to view as a regular jpg. it’s confusing since I simply completed the update from inside wordpress – any ideas on what the problem could be?

oh! i just fixed the problem. apparently my wordpress version was out of date. as soon as i updated it to 2.9, the issue resolved itself

Hi!
Thanks for new release! But I don’t know if I’m going to install it. The reason is – translation. I’m to lazy to look for all english expressions in kPicasa’s code. Is it somehow easier (like all expressions in one file) to translate it since 0.2.3 ? If so, I can translate kPicasa to polish.
December 22nd, 2009 at 9:05 am
Fundacja KAIROS: not many expressions have changed. Sorry if it’s not easy.
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:04 am
It is really great on your part to keep upgrading your plugin frequently making it up to date.
Amd thanks for including FancyBox!
Yes. The video rendering is buggy
I’ll have to take it to the author.

S.K: every time I release a new version, I tell myself “this is it”. But every time, someone comes up with interesting ideas.

Thanks for the update! I am using this on one of the sites I manage, http://FoothillsHarmonyChorus.org and it works great. I use the HighSlide feature, and it really, REALLY looks great.
Thanks for an easy to use, yet very feature-packed plugin!!

Guillaume:
This is the reply got from the author of FancyBox engine:
“I guess you could change width and height. Try setting frameWidth to
640 and frameHeight to 480″
Hope you’d be able to decipher what he means by that and do the needful.
Thanks and regards

The slideshow it’s great idea, but it should be opened in a new page.
December 27th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
Hey, great plugin. This is definately the best way to put a complete gallery into a wordpress page. I was thinking it would be cool if you could implement comments (picasa comments, not wordpress comments) to the photos, and the “Like” link, similiar to what you would see if you viewed a public picasa gallery.
Just some ideas, Thanks, Nate

When can I use shortcodes? I really need this!
January 10th, 2010 at 8:11 am
Great pugin. in my opinion the best way to put picasa albums in posts.
I’ve just had some problems with your plugin and I really don’t know why.
This is what it says:
couldn’t get connection to fopen() for http://picasaweb.google.com/data/feed/api/user/hirngespuckt/album/WurzburgHamburgBraunschweig?kind=photo
thanks for the help

I put it on showing 2 pictures per row, but it keeps on showing 3, something which pushed my sidebar down to the bottom of the page. How can I fix this?
January 21st, 2010 at 9:50 am
Hello Guillaume!
I’ve been using your plugin for a long time now, but recently I started getting the following error message: “name lookup timed out”. It shows up instead of the pictures where a gallery (album) would appear.
It doesn’t happen all the time, so I can’t figure out what causes it. Can you help?
Thank you!
January 23rd, 2010 at 5:45 am
Hello,
It seems to be a great plugin. I have installed kPicasa and altpwa to try & decide.
Is it possible to add a link to the original Album in Picasa ?
Like mentioned before, it would be great if the slideshow open in a popup or new window.
Best regards
January 23rd, 2010 at 9:56 am
Another idea : it would be great if a shortcode allows to insert only the album cover instead of the full album …
February 7th, 2010 at 5:02 am
Great Plugin! However, is it possible to display non-public galleries, i.e. those with authkey?
February 8th, 2010 at 10:18 pm
Thomas: yes, just check on the WordPress plugins page:

February 9th, 2010 at 6:22 am
Hi Guillaume,
The album descriptions are not showing up for me. Any ideas how to solve this?
http://www.kawabanga.com.br/blog/galeria/
Also, sometimes I get a “name lookup timed out” error, and no pictures/albums are shown. Can’t find any help on this via Google… Can you help?
Thanks
February 9th, 2010 at 7:10 am
Alexandre:: are you sure you checked album description in the settings page?
As for the “named lookup timed out”, that definately sounds like a server error. You should check with your provider.
February 13th, 2010 at 8:41 pm
Please make it possible to add multiple private albums :’(
And a random-photo for the sidebar
February 14th, 2010 at 1:45 pm
Could please add a comments to photos?
I thought it is impossible, but I was wrong.
Here is a good explanation: http://code.google.com/intl/de-DE/apis/picasaweb/docs/1.0/developers_guide_php.html#Comments

Great plugin, I am migrating to picasa now and this is going to work well. I have one suggestion:
It would be nice to be able to search by date range in url, ie ?date=2007
This would only show albums in 2007
Also, you could use TAGS the same way
February 21st, 2010 at 1:17 am
Can add EXIF information under the picture? I want that feature.

I got your plugin running on my site and it is wonderfull! Finaly a good way to show my photo’s.. Now I was wondering.. will you make this for youtube as well? Cause I’d like that very muchos!
March 2nd, 2010 at 2:04 am
Great plugin, thanks so much.
I can’t seem to figure out how to change the size of the full size images that come up when the thumbnail is clicked. I am using Highside. How do I acess those settings?
April 3rd, 2010 at 5:36 pm
Great Plugin! Thank you, but I have an issue with the way the styles/js scripts are being enqueued. They seem to be on every page regardless of whether the kPicasa tag is present or not. I would love to use this plugin but it conflicts with another page I have that is using HighSlide. I am currently trying to implement the fix that is discussed at:
http://beerpla.net/2010/01/13/wordpress-plugin-development-how-to-include-css-and-javascript-conditionally-and-only-when-needed-by-the-posts/
but am having some difficulties. Do you plan on making these changes in your next release?
April 16th, 2010 at 9:43 am
kPicasa plugin refuses to display images -at all- if I insert any other text onto the page. Remove the text, plugin works. Add the text, plugin doesn’t work. WHY??? Anyone else experiencing this issue with plugin?
April 27th, 2010 at 8:57 pm
Bravo pour l’excellent travail!!!
Is there a way to remove the “caption” (légende) in the gallery view?
Thanks
Alex
April 27th, 2010 at 8:58 pm
To be more precise, is there a way to remove the captions under each pictures in the Gallery view…
May 8th, 2010 at 4:21 am
Hi!
Few words from me. Last night I was trying to run some picasa plugin and i found this one. After 2h i wasn’t able to make it working, so i switched to some other. After installing it wasn’t working too, but it displayed that I need simplexml support in php (which in gentoo isn’t enabled by default). So I installed it, and… yuppi! plugin is working!
But the important part is: kpicasa started too! If this simplexml is the reason maybe it would be good to write somewhere hint about it
May 8th, 2010 at 7:35 am
Thank you for taking the time to write here.
I always took for granted that SimpleXML was compiled in. I’ll add this in the doc, hopefully it’ll help other people.
May 10th, 2010 at 10:56 pm
Great plugin, works very well. Is it possible to include more image information, and link to the full-sized image?
May 12th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
great plugin but is there something similar for flickr? all my photos are uploaded there and will take me ages to move them to picasa. cheers
May 13th, 2010 at 6:27 am
hi,
first i’d like to say its a great plugin
also done in a very clean and nice way.
do you have any idea about when
this Upcoming feature will be ready?
•Multiple unlisted albums
i need this feature and wonder, what is the major problem when
(code wise) you try to list the unlisted albums?
i have many gallery and now it just way to big drop down menu
and not realy nice.
all the best,
louie.
May 13th, 2010 at 8:28 am
louie: it’s not that much about the complexity. I just don’t have that much free time to spend on coding.
marta: I don’t plan to adapt my plugin for Flickr. I’m sure there are already great plugins out there.
John: more image information like what? Unfortunately, not all information is in the feed provided by Picasa.
Alex: you can look at kPicasa’s CSS file. Everything is commented there. You can change the appeareance (ie: hide) of pretty much everything.
Mike: are you sure you’re using the latest version? This is an issue I fixed a long time ago.
Frank Indelicato: I am aware of this behavior. To be honest, I’m having a hard time with this. But it is definately one of the top thing I’m trying to fix.
Thomsa: it cannot be changed. kPicasa Gallery already uses the highest resolution available from Picasa.
Theuntje: I don’t plan to port my code to other services, sorry.
pixxel, patrick: it probably means your host is slow and abandons the connection to Picasa after 5 seconds. I’m not sure, I’ve never seen this myself.
Shooter: the full EXIF information is not provided in the Picasa feed.
Jon: I’ll have to think about it. But I’m taking note of your suggestion.
BenTreeser: I’ll be contacting you in the near future. I’m interested in your solution.
May 13th, 2010 at 1:26 pm
I was wondering if there was any possible way to exclude albums from my wordpress page? I know I could just add albums that I want, but then, if I added a new album, I’d have to go into wordpress and change that too.) I have an 8 month old, so I anticipate many more albums. For now, I’ll do it that way, but if there could be an ‘omit:(Album name)’ tag that would be awesome.
May 13th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
Simply mark the album as Private in Picasa?
May 17th, 2010 at 10:18 am
HI!
Thanks for this plugin! It’s really easy to use and implement…
Being fairly new to WP and PHP.. can you tell me what section to edit to remove the “album name” from the plugin? I don’t want the name of the album to show on the page..I’ve removed thata class from the CSS but not sure that was correct because it didn’t do the trick.
Thank you in advance for your time!
June 16th, 2010 at 3:54 pm
Love the plug in — it’s EXACTLY what I have been looking for.. One question for the master:
I am having the same issue as Heather above… Any ideas??
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks so much!
-Drew
June 16th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
Nevermind! You can remove the title be editing the kpg-class.php file and removing the line:
print “$albumTitle”;
Cheers!
-Drew
June 16th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
Heather, Drew: do you want to hide the album name on the albums page or once inside an album?
June 16th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
Drew: right, but next time you upgrade kPicasa Gallery, your modification will be lost. The proper way would be to add this line to your general CSS file:
#kpg-title { display: none; }
June 18th, 2010 at 5:08 am
Is a new version of kPicasa Gallery in work? It doesn’t runs in WordPress 3.0. I love this Plugin, but after Updating to WP 3.0 i have to deactivate the foto page on our Band Website.
June 18th, 2010 at 6:44 am
Buchi: sorry to hear that, but kPicasa works in WP3.0. As a matter if fact, I updated this very blog to WP3.0 yesterday.
Could you try to disable all of your plugins and only enable kPicasa? Does it work?
June 19th, 2010 at 10:07 pm
I could get kPicasa works on wordpress 3.0, (I had a problem with the JavaScript to Footer plugin), but the description of the album and the number of pictures aren’t shown.
June 19th, 2010 at 10:12 pm
nope, I didn’t check the album description in the settings page…
June 21st, 2010 at 1:04 pm
Thanks so much for the plugin! It’s working really well on my site running WP3.0.
However, I am having one issue while viewing an album page: The footer is being written outside of the wrapper element. For example, the normal markup is something like:
wrapper
- main
– content
– /content
- /main
- footer
- /footer
/wrapper
But on the album page, it’s more like:
wrapper
- main
– content
– /content
- /main
/wrapper
footer
/footer
Spent a little time poking around the code and I can’t figure out why and especially why only when viewing an album and not the album list.
Any thoughts?
June 22nd, 2010 at 6:46 am
The Plugin only works in WP3.0 if u enter the shortcode in the WYSIWYG-Editor. If u enter the Shortcode in the Code-Editor u will read KPICASA_GALLERY on the page instead of the Picasa Albums.
June 24th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Hi.
first of all, thanks for the plugin.
how can i take the title of album, to the title of the page?

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/listade/public_html/COMIC-CON/wp-content/plugins/kpicasa-gallery-php4mod/kpg.class.php on line 133

Guillaume,
Great plug-in! Just a question regarding multiple albums. I know that the following works KPICASA_GALLERY(TripToEurope, TripToAsia) for multiple public albums but something like KPICASA_GALLERY(TripToEurope#Gv1sRgCILA9ebdxLyZaQ, TripToAsia#Gv1sRgCILA9ebdxLyZbQ) does not work for private ones. Is that correct? Is there a certain way to show multiple private albums?
Thanks for your help!
norm
July 26th, 2010 at 3:23 pm
Norm: due to technical reasons, for now, there can only be one private albums per page/post. Maybe this will change in the future, but it’s not in my short term plans. Sorry and thanks for your support.
August 2nd, 2010 at 8:39 am
Hi,
Great plugin, thanks! Just, how can I use kpicasa and a separate plugin (shadowbox/highslide) for the other pictures on my website? When I add another plugin like WP-highslide and activate it, the pictures in the kpicasa album won’t work anymore because I think the highslide is loaded twice. Is there any possibility to only load it once or use your plugin for individual pictures as well?
Thanks!
Piet
August 2nd, 2010 at 8:44 am
Piet,
I use Shashin. after you install the plugin, it has a sidebar widgets, plugins for pages, and all of it, using short tags. I tried Kpicasa and it was just not enough for me. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/shashin/
It’s a little complex to set up, at first, but man. it’s incredible. Check out my sidebar, and my page entitled “My Life” and you can see what it does. No additional plugins necessary.
August 2nd, 2010 at 9:04 am
Thanks Andy, but I would like to continue to use kpicasa. It’s easy and simple and works perfect. Adding a new plugin just for this issue takes too much time and effort. I don’t think it’s so difficult to make it work with the separate effect plugins, just I would like to know how.
August 31st, 2010 at 5:16 pm
Hello, I’m using the plugin and is currently experiencing the following error: “could not connect to host”. Could you help me? Thank you.
Example: http://www.autocustom.com.br/galeria/
October 11th, 2010 at 10:39 am
Great plug-in! Thanks for the amazing work!
November 19th, 2010 at 11:21 am
hai,
I love the plugin. But when I brought my site to another server the same problem as Alexander had popped up: “name lookup timed out” and no photo’s appear. My host couldn’t tell what the problem was, so does anybody know here?
The side is a birth gift, so for them it’s a shame they don’t see the pictures of their baby.
thanks
November 19th, 2010 at 12:02 pm
@Mirjam: the problem is your web server cannot connect to Picasa. Some setting is preventing the connection from going through. It would be a firewall, a PHP setting, an OS setting, sorry but I don’t know.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:52 am
Hai,
Thanks for your plugin. I wonder is it possible not to open the slideshow in a popup, but in a new window? How can I get that done? Thanks!
January 16th, 2011 at 1:55 am
Hi, plugin works great with private albums with syntax KPICASA_GALLERY(gallery#authkey) but is there any way to just display the album thumbnail that when clicked opens the album and not display all the photos on the page by default? Thanks.
January 29th, 2011 at 7:58 pm
Hey Guillaume!
This is a really great plugin! It took a while to understand and tweak it with my limited knowledge but it works great.
Only thing … in reference to comments Mike’s comment (#31 and #39) – I too am having issues with adding content. I have the most current version and I’ve disabled the autop function so that it’s not wrapped with p.
To be exact, trying to add a div wrapped content so I can put images to the right of the gallery (please see the sample page: http://weahwi.com/wordpress/the-tree-pink-bunny-josh/.
Thanks!
February 15th, 2011 at 9:25 am
Hello Guill,
I’ve translated the last version to Czech. Also improved some little bugs:
kpg.class.php
• corrected rows 167 & 262 : marking __ngettext changed to _n
• corrected row 264 : parameter albumNbPhoto changed to albumSlideshow
kpicasa_gallery.php
• added rows 94, 95 :
$plugin_dir = basename(dirname(__FILE__));
load_plugin_textdomain( ‘kpicasa_gallery’, null, $plugin_dir );
kpicasa_gallery.css
Some little changes for better look if number photos / slideshow is shown
All worked perfect in WP 3.0.5.
Give me your mail contact to send you all files. Thanks! Josef
February 17th, 2011 at 12:20 am
Thanks for the great plug in. Are you able to point me in the right direction so I can add a download image link on the picture list and full sized pictures.
Thanks again

Hi Kag, thanks for the fantastic plug-in. I don’t know if you’re aware but something seems amiss – at least for me. Any website I visit right now that uses the kPicasa plugin (including yours and my own) will only display thumbnail size images when I click on them. I’m not sure if Google have broken something or if it’s an incompatibility with the latest version of WordPress. Any ideas?
May 25th, 2011 at 11:44 pm
Yes, Alex.
I too find this problem in all my installations.
Should dig deeper to locate the source of the issue. I request the plugin author to please have a look at this.
Regards
S.K
May 26th, 2011 at 9:46 am
@Alex @S.K it seems that Google changed something in the XML file that kPicasa reads. I will have a look at it shortly.
May 26th, 2011 at 10:17 am
Thanks, Guillaume.

Hi Guillaume,
First of all, awesome plugin! I’ve just started having one problem though. The galleries and albums all display correctly, but now for some reason clicking on a picture just brings up a tiny version of the pic.
I think I know what th problem is – when I hover over a pic, the google link that appears contains “s72″ (small version). I’m not sure why this has started happening -it was fine before. Maybe the new versions of wordpress have broke something…
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks
Raj
May 26th, 2011 at 12:21 pm
Oops – I didn’t see the last post – it appears someone else has already reported the problem. Sorry for the double post…
May 26th, 2011 at 4:51 pm
same here, thanks for checking out the problem.
May 26th, 2011 at 6:11 pm
Another user with the same problem. Thanks for the good work!
May 26th, 2011 at 7:48 pm
I’ve the problem too. I tried to edit the code of the plugin, but I don’t see any strange. The problem it’s from Picasa. But, what’s the problem?
May 27th, 2011 at 9:16 am
Google has fixed the problem before I had time to work on a temporary fix. Everything should be back to normal.
May 28th, 2011 at 5:12 pm
Looks good now Guillaume, thank you. I realise it was a Google bug, but it should be noted that you still tried to come up with a fix for it anyway. That’s awesome and I’ve had worse support from paid-for products. Thank you for kPicasa!
June 28th, 2011 at 7:22 pm
It seem to me to be a great plugin, except (and this could be an issue on my part) that when a new album is added to Web Picasa it doesn’t reflect on the page where my shortcode ‘KPICASA_GALLERY’ is. The only way I can get the new album to show is to delete the page and create another with the same KPICASA_GALLERY shortcode.
July 19th, 2011 at 8:40 am
@Pete there’s a cache integrated to kPicasa so it doesn’t connect to Picasa every single time a page is loaded (if you have an average of 100 visitors a minute, that would be 144,000 connections to Picasa per day). If my memory is right, the cache gets reloaded every hour.
