kPicasa Gallery 0.1.5 (works with WordPress 2.6.0)
Filed in: Wordpress Add comments
I commited a new version of kPicasa that is supposed to work in WordPress 2.6.0. Let me know if you’re still having issues. There are no new features in this release.
In the meantime, I’m still working on version 0.2.0, which will be a complete overhaul of the way it currently works. I’m planning to take advantage of WP-Cron which will periodically fetch everything in your Picasa account. In simple words, it be a lot easier for me to add new features in the future. Not much will change for the end user for now, but it’s a more solid base for the future.
I’m also going to gradually lock commenting on old posts, in order to only keep the current post alive.

Seems to work well for me. Thanks!

Works great! Thank you for this upgrade.

Hi Guillaume,
Many thanks for the upgrade !!
Did you manage to upgrade the “highslide” and “lightbox” plugin in that version ?
As you are working on the v2.0, would it be possible to have the “highslide” or “lightbox” script running only on the page where the images are to avoid loading time on the homepage. It would be really great ! 😉
Thks,
Nicolas

I¨m very sorry for missing localization strings! My advertising of your plugin here in CR is useless now. Harm…

Nicolas, I did not touch Highslide or Lightbox in this release. Something is different in the latest Highslide, I updated the JS file and it stopped working. I just wanted to push kPicasa as quick as possible so I reverted to the original version for now. Don’t worry, they will be updated to their latest version in 0.2.0. I’m also working to find a way to only load the JS files on the proper pages.
Pepawo, I replied via email (and I just realized that I misspelled your name – sorry).

Hi,
now it seems to work well. I have some suggestions for further versions:
I really like Highslide, but it is useless for me until you cant center every image in the center of the screen. It is the worth thing I have ever seen, that the images change their position while I try to look through a gallery. I saw on the highslide homepage that it is possible to center the images, but not in the version you use like it seems. Anyway, my suggestions would be, to make some options for highslide changable in the settings menu and not to have to change the script manually.
Anyhow: it is a great plugin! Go on!

Hi Leo,
I understand your point, but for me it’s more a “nice to have” and Guillaume doesn’t manage this external script. Maybe the new Highslide version (available here : http://vikjavev.no/highslide/) that Guillaume will integrate in the v2.0 will solve this issue.
Now, if you navigate between pictures with your keyboard (left/right key), that is not really an issue…

Hello!
I would like to make a quick feature request (but please do not feel obligated to incorporate it).
Could a feature version of kPicasa Gallery (maybe 0.2.0), add FancyZoom to the Show Full Sized Photos Engine?
Thanks so much for this plugin!

Hello,
I just installed kPicasa, configured everything and place the code in a post (the newest one). But when I open my website, I get the header, the name of the post and then…. nothing, I don’t get any messages and I don’t have the rest of the website.
When I look at the source file, it’s just like the rest of the coding stopped.
Here’s the adress : http://www.histoiredeq.com/bj/blog/
Could you help?
Thanks!

I like the plugin but I have a few comments/questions/suggestions.
First I have a lot of albums that are frequently updated, is there a way to have it pull only albums with a specific tag associated with it?
Second, when I try to use a private album with the authkey parameter it does not work, it would be nice if it did.
I thought I had a third but I can’t remember.
Anyway, good work!

I really appreciate your excellent work! I’m looking forward to version 0.2.0!

Hi
In Lightbox the first picture is not activated as it should do. Only from the second picture Lightbox works. And in Highslide (which I prefer) again first picture does not work, second does but you cannot go to the next one. Is this something to do with the Theme?

great job with the plug-in; it’s beautiful!
i have one relatively small issue: i am using lightbox, and the image captions (from picasa) load properly for each picture that has a caption…HOWEVER, pictures that do not have captions display the description of the last picture with one….if you check out my site, you will see that the first few pictures are fine (no captions), then a picture with a caption appears correctly, BUT then, the next picture should NOT have a caption, yet it displays the caption of the preceding picture…is there anything i can do to fix this or is it a bug?
i hope my issue isnt described too confusingly!
im looking forward to the new version – keep up the great work,
thank you,
leo

Hello!
First of all, thank you for writing this plugin and made it free to the market. It’s working great, with one exception in my case. I cannot switch pages (for example, on the bottom it appear 1 2 3 … and I cannot click on 2 or 3 or so on…).I’m using WordPress 2.6.1 and Grain as template and the address where you can see the behavior is: http://bwp.ezeea.com/?page_id=416 (this is the test, soon I will change to the official name which will be http://www.blogwithphotos/?page_id=416 , so please try this second link if the primary is not working). As a browser I’m using Firefox 3 under OpenSuse, but I will try with other browser and write the results here.
Any help will be appreciated!
Thank you!

Hi again!
I found a temporary solution for the problem at .17. On the settings page I put 0 number to gallery per page and 0 to photos per page so that it show everything on the same page.
Cheers,
Calin

Hello,
How can I edit Thumbs size with this plugin?

September 27th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Hi,
I was trying to enhance my website’s gallery, and fell across your plugin: it is great! I like the general look, and I love how it works with lightbox. (on my site, the GALLERY link is still not updated to work with the plugin – as I am still testing it)
I have a question regarding “personalizing” the plugin:
a. Is it possible to add a title – text, but preferably image, above the galleries? I was trying to manipulate the PHP code, but ended up with a mess, so reverted to your original version…
b. I saw questions about defining the size of the thumbnails, but no answers – wheer can I define the size of the thumbnails? Or is this inhereted from my Picasa WebAlboms definitions? I am trying to create clean “squares”. no matter what was the original format of the picture – that will be visible only when watching the full size…
Thanks for a great plugin, and hoping for some response…

So after playing around a bit more, I actually found the place where I can add some html and added a title to my gallery using a PRINT statement. I guess my suggestion would be in future versions to include this ability to insert html code for the title of the gallery. I wonder how complicated it would be to have different titles for different galleries?!
On a different matter, since the plugin takes me to Picasa, there is no ability to comment on the images. Is that an ability you are considering for future versions? I was finding it hard to imagine how can that happen since the actual images are just read from PicasaWeb, but maybe some sort of a smart pointers system could help there?!
Again, thanks for a great plugin – and thanks for the forced PHP practice 😉

Hey,
Any idea on how to use the hs.dimminOpacity parameter from within kpicasa? I tried to just add the declaration in the kpicasa_gallery.php file with the corresponding edit in the css file but it doesn’t work.
Thanks for a great plugin!

The demo of the plugin looks great, and I’m excited to try it out; however, when I try to activate it in WordPress 2.7 it tells me there’s a fatal error and that I need PHP 5. Well I check with my webhost and they’re running PHP 5.2.8 so I figure the plugin needs to be updated to work with WP 2.7. Any schedule for that? Thanks for any help you offer.
December 21st, 2008 at 10:26 am
That’s weird, because I actually updated this very blog to WordPress 2.7 before going to bed yesterday. As you can see it’s working fine. If you create a PHP script with only the following line, what does it output?
December 22nd, 2008 at 5:53 am
Very weird! It says I’m running PHP 4.4.9 but when I check the control panel of my web host services, they say I’m running PHP 5.2.8. I’ll have to call them and give them an earful… Thanks for looking into this for me!

Sorry to be a pest… Ok, so I got the server end fixed. I installed the plugin… read the readme… went to set up the plugin… and it asks me for my picasa username… but not password. How is it supposed to gain access to my albums without password? Did I mess something up?
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:31 am
No you didn’t mess up anything. Picasa provides a public RSS feed that is available to anyone on the internet, which contains the list of all your albums and all your pictures. That’s what kPicasa uses.
So yes, you could hook your blog to *any* Picasa account, even if it doesn’t belong to you.

Merci
January 20th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Salut Arnaud,
foreach( $xml->entry as $album )
$xml->entry = array_reverse($xml->entry);

Love your plugin and currently use it on 3 wordpress sites. I am wondering how to modify your script so that I can use it on a non-Wordpress website.
January 30th, 2009 at 12:18 am
Hi Heather,
First thank you for your great comments. Unfortunately this plugin was not made to be used in a stand-alone mode. It has to be used through WordPress. Of course it can be modified in such a way, but that would require extensive PHP knowledge.

Hi author of the kPicasa,
I just ran into the problem below when testing kPicasa locally on my computer:
Warning: file_get_contents(http://picasaweb.google.com/data/feed/api/user/paultangcn%40gmail.com?kind=album) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! in C:\xampp\htdocs\wordpress\wp-content\plugins\kpicasa-gallery\kpg.class.php on line 424
Error: kPicasa Gallery tried to connect to Picasa Web Albums using file_get_contents() and failed. Your web host is probably blocking outgoing requests.
I wonder what the problem was, and if kPicasa work with WordPress 2.7.
Thanks!
February 6th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Yes it works with WP 2.7. The error is self-explanatory: kPicasa Gallery tried to connect to Picasa Web Albums using file_get_contents() and failed. Your web host is probably blocking outgoing requests. I don’t know what else to say! If you to go the URL yourself, you’ll see it works. But your web server cannot access it.

Hi Guillaume, I have been using your plugin for quite some time and really to love it, its been the easiest way to display Picasa albums on WordPress that I have found. However I recently upgraded to WordPress 2.7 and I now believe it may have effected the functionality of your plugin. When viewing the albums list they are in a two column format just as the settings declares, but when I select an album the photos, also in a two column list, stretch to fill beyond to content boundries of my theme. This not only looks terrible but it also forces my sidebar widgets down below the gallary. Is there anything you can think of that might solve this issue. Below is a link to the albums page, please feel free to select any album and you will quickly see what I am talking about.

Thanks,

Bonjour Guillaume,
Merci d’avance
March 20th, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Salut Seb,
